Software eco-design: the Ecogiciel label.
PRESENTATION
Aware of the ecological impact of the digital domain and firmly convinced of the imperative to take environmental challenges into consideration, INFOCERT has decided to use its expertise in software certification to support the launch of ECOGICIEL.
A software eco-design label based on a comprehensive and proven audit methodology, carried out by France's leading software auditor.
What is eco-designed software?
Decisions taken when designing software determine its level of energy consumption. The constant addition of features through successive updates can make software less efficient and more damaging to the environment, often without any real need.
INFOCERT is committed to promoting software quality and efficiency at all levels, from design to deactivation. From an environmental point of view, this requires a methodical and efficient approach to software design. By combining INFOCERT's expertise in software certification with this need for environmental efficiency, ECOGICIEL was born, the first eco-design label, supervised by experienced software auditors.
The aim of the ECOGICIEL label is to promote eco-designed software by awarding it a label following an audit.
This label enables users, customers, partners and other stakeholders to recognize software that has been designed in an environmentally-friendly way, and to make a credible claim that it is energy-efficient.
The use of eco-designed software contributes to the CSR policy of its publisher as well as its users, offering a concrete way of implementing CSR commitments in the digital field, an increasingly important aspect for many customers.
Certification audit.
The granting of the right to use the ECOGICIEL label is based on precise technical and qualitative expectations, methods, data models and functions.
The eco-design process will be assessed by taking into account the following aspects, among others, when awarding the Ecogiciel label:
- functional and technical sizing ;
- documentation and governance ;
- of the production ;
- of the Journal des Évènements Numériques (JEN);
- measuring digital impact ;
- ecosystem study ;
- decommissioning.
The aim of the audit will be to assess the software's compliance with certification requirements and to judge its energy efficiency, by analyzing its functional characteristics and the means used to achieve them at all the stages mentioned, including :
- software design strategy ;
- its specifications ;
- its architecture ;
- UX/UI;
- contents ;
- the backend ;
- frontend ;
- hosting and maintenance ;
- Etc.
The labeling process also keeps in mind the specificities of the industry in which the software is used, as each software product must meet sector-specific criteria that cannot be compromised.
Who is the label for?
The ECOGICIEL label is aimed at all players involved in the design or use of software, wishing to integrate their digital practices into a CSR approach, or to justify the implementation of their CSR policy.
Here we find, among others:
- Software publishers ;
- Companies that have developed software in-house ;
Indirectly, the label also concerns other entities, such as :
- CSR consulting and auditing firms;
- CSR-sensitive investment funds ;
- Companies in their calls for tender;
- Government departments ;
- ESNs and integrators.
The Ecogiciel label represents a crucial element in the implementation of a CSR policy, particularly given the significant impact of digital technology on energy consumption, and the importance attached by companies, users and public authorities to taking environmental issues into account.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Software eco-design: the most frequently asked questions.
INFOCERT is the French specialist in software certification.
Technical secretariat ofAFNOR Certification and inspection body, INFOCERT develops numerous NF marks, a guarantee of quality, safety and confidence.
INFOCERT has hundreds of certified partners all over the world, from world-renowned publishers to smaller companies with integrated IT departments.
The ECOGICIEL label is the direct product of our know-how gained from thousands of software audits. Our audit methodology is widely recognized, and is probably what has made INFOCERT the French leader in software audits.
This label will enable product managers, CIOs and CSR managers to find the right methodology and the right partner to enhance the value of their work by pursuing a goal of continuous improvement and taking environmental issues into account.
Software eco-design can take many forms, including the choice of fonts or colors, the use of very high-definition images, automatic page loading, the introduction of new functions, and so on.
THE BENEFITS OF CERTIFICATION
Why get your software certified?
+ Justify your CSR policy
and environmental issues in the digital sector.
+ Open up to new markets
benefiting from an eco-design label, which may be required in some calls for tender.
+ Meeting market needs
by proposing software in line with the expectations of companies, partners, users, etc.
+ Improve the quality of your software
in response to quality requirements - notably stemming from ISO 9001 and ISO 25051 standards.
